I use WOD book a lot but will give Fitocracy a go. For travel workouts I use Trekfit.

Since they have so much historical data, it would be a great resource to help calibrate the algorithm once the basic functions are in place.

Part of the reason I’m so eager for a scaling app is b/c i’ve been depending on this forum for years for my scaling, but have recently started hearing buzz that its future is up in the air right now. There may be a limited window for leveraging its scaling data.

If you build it, I would definitely buy it (if Android or desktop/browser).

That’s really an interesting feature as I find myself having to calculate in my head what would be possible if Im not able to do a WOD rx’d – and having to scale down to something more appropriate but will still make me work really hard.

Will try to track something down.. and if not, maybe make it myself.

Thanks for commenting!

We haven’t come across anything like that, but it sounds like a new app or at least a new feature waiting to be created!

We’ve got a couple of posts listing some cool WOD-related apps for both Android and iPhone. If you’ve got a favourite, drop them a note and throw your idea at them. Might become a new feature!

Check out our 2 posts “The Best Android Apps for CrossFit” and “The Best iPhone Apps for CrossFit” here:

Have you found any apps that provide a WOD scaler based on results from standard benchmarks people of a wide range of levels can do without special substitutions or scaling (I’m thinking especially of 5k run, 5k row, CrossFit total)?

It would be great to have something that could be customized as above, then applied to the CrossFit.com WOD (or any other WOD the user inputs) and adjust weights as well as provide suggestions for tweaking reps and rounds.

Comment on High Protein Diet – Is it as Bad As Smoking? by Kelly Barron https://www.crossfitto.org/high-protein-diet-bad-smoking/#comment-31998 Thu, 08 May 2014 22:33:37 +0000 https://www.crossfitto.org/?p=22543#comment-31998 Thanks for your feedback, Scott!

You make a really good point.

Yes, in simplest terms, protein consumption encourages cell growth and there can be malfunctions in the productions of cells.

In the study, those who ate high vegetarian protein diet had no significant increase of cancer over those who ate moderate or low protein diets.

So, it might not be protein itself but rather the type of protein we are consuming, which begs the question of why? I think more research needs to be done to answer that.

We have different nutritional needs at different ages, so it stands to reason that there very well may be ideal foods for different ages, too (again, another good point). We might not be able to find all the answers but it is good to be informed, to know the risks and benefits of what you are eating.

Comment on High Protein Diet – Is it as Bad As Smoking? by scottpatrickwright https://www.crossfitto.org/high-protein-diet-bad-smoking/#comment-31984 Tue, 06 May 2014 03:34:48 +0000 https://www.crossfitto.org/?p=22543#comment-31984 It seems to make sense to me, my general understanding is that protein consumption encourages cell growth. Any time cells are replicating there is some chance of a malfunction of the machinery of replication and some proportion of those could be bad malfunctions that turn into cancers. This is why a lot of common cancers occur in areas of the body where the most cell replication is taking place.

I say this all at the risk of grossly over simplifying it. So the study seems to indicate that as we get older we get increasingly susceptible to certain kinds of cancer and doing stuff that encourages cell growth could worsen the odds of something going wrong.

I’m not sure I have a counter for the argument. I eat a lot of protein myself and I was aware of this idea before but my attitude has been that the health benefits outweigh the risks. Perhaps it may turn out there are different ideal foods for different ages? Or perhaps it may be that there are not clear answers and like so much else in life diet will turn out to be a choice thats a compromise where balance benefit against risk.

I am kind of hoping we can rescue high protein somehow. I just had ribs and chicken wings (and not much else) for dinner 😉
